My Faith Goals for 2019

January 2019 is almost ending and I just can’t help but feel that I haven’t really spent the time I needed to reflect on 2018 and really plan for 2019.

Churches and Fellowships I know have scheduled their annual  prayer and fasting to really set aside time to pray and seek God’s guidance throughout the year.  It is typical to create a list of to-do’s or craft a list of resolutions to start the year.  Similar to that, what we (me and my friends and church mates) do is to make a list of or FAITH GOALS.   These are goals, usually big ones that require us to stretch our faith and rely on God to see them accomplished.

Aside from my usual goals for myself and my family, my goal for the year is to:

1. CULTIVATE A GRATEFUL HEART

I tend to stress about things and would often need to remind myself to just be still and cast all my worries and cares to God through prayers.  We were never designed to carry so much burdens and loads.  We were even commanded NOT to worry!  What causes stress anyway? My stress comes from FEAR – fear that all things will not be up to par and go wrong. I realized, eventually, that I have to be grateful instead.  Being thankful gives me joy! Focusing on what I am blessed with diverts my focus off worries and fears that saps my energy and enthusiasm.

I began my 2019 Faith goal with a long list of things to be grateful for. And wow! They are many.  And so I decided to start my 2019 days reciting all the things, people, events I am blessed with!

2. NOURISH MY SOUL

Image by We heart It, Pinterest

For this year, I want to have consistent quiet time to meditate, pray,   journal, commune with God.   Often, I have tried to accomplish tasks, pushing myself harder, when my inner gas tank is running empty.  This doesn’t have to be.  It’s not just about being more of an introvert, it’s more of connecting with God and letting Him fill you up – trading your sorrows with hope and your pains with His Joy. Call it recharging your inner strength so you can face the day bravely, serve others and be an inspiration to many instead of dragging them down.

3. BE OF SERVICE

I believe that we are called to serve. We are to be God’s hands to others and be a visible representation of Christ to them. For many years, I have been trying to discover myself. I’ve tried many things, changed jobs, listened to a lot of people, observed their ways, read many books and was charmed by many movies and stories. Ultimately, the question I would like to answer would be: How can I serve in a way that is me – with my strengths and skills and at the same time, my limitations too? I am willing but how? I have an idea for this year. I’ve started and started small and will continue to start new stuff for this year.

I am believing and praying that 2019 is a year of elevation and purpose. Dreams put on hold will push thru. Provision will flow simply because my hope is not on myself, my skills, my abilities – it is on God who created me and has a purpose for me – to bloom and blossom and grow so I can help others bloom, blossom and grow too.

Magical Christmas Carnival at SM City Taytay

SM City Taytay literally wowed everyone during the 2018 Christmas Launch with its theme: Christmas Carnival! Truly, Christmas, everyone’s favorite time of the year is here!  You could actually feel the Christmas vibe when you enter the mall!

The event area was decorated well in red, gold and white and the carnival theme brought me back to the joys of carnival rides and exciting shows when I was still little girl.

Everyone was treated to a spectacular event with wonderful numbers hosted by the lovely Ms. Saab Magalona!

A series of wonderful numbers followed inspired by THE GREATEST SHOWMAN movie.  The numbers were enhanced even more with Jugglers, contortionists, heart-stopping acrobatics, songs, dances and other theatrics.

Stunning and heart stopping performances

Feed your Kids Smart with Healthy Options

My 7 year old son Lukas is picky when it comes to food. Feeding him is difficult.

He doesn’t like sweets and chocolate, cakes and ice cream which every kid loves! He loves strawberry flavored lollipops though and loves gummy bears.

He has taste only for certain dishes that he loves – Sinigang (stewed pork or fish in tamarind based soup), chicken nuggets, fried and roast chicken, congee, wanton noodles.  He prefers certain brands of crackers too! The choices are so limited that it sometimes stresses me out and worries me if he gets the right nutrition he needs.

That’s why I was so delighted to attend a session, organized by Healthy Options, with nutritionist Amanda Barnes.

Amanda Barnes in action – Treats for Kids

“Moms, Dads, YOU are in Charge!”

I learned that parents need not give up and has to take charge! On the average, it takes 8 – 10 tries before a kid likes a dish/food.  Creating healthy habits should be every parent’s goal.

Asking “How can I make it better for you?” or  “What spices can we add?” involves them in the process and gives them a “choice.”  (You know how the little ones would always want to make choices too!)

Standing firm by saying “You don’t get to try that until you have a little bit of this” will also help.

Amanda encouraged us to make healthy choices for our little ones.

We can choose food and fruits loaded with Vitamins and minerals. Plant based food are excellent choices. Herbs and  spices are powerhouses of good stuff for everyone.  It also helps when they are involved in the process and making them watch as we prepare their favorite food.

Healthy snacks may include carrot sticks, yogurt, oats, milk and fruit shakes!

UREKA MOMENT:

Lukas loves Fruit shakes, so I now make him his favorite shakes with loads of supplements in it!  (One up for this Mama!)

Supplements are God’s gift to us. (Really!!!).

Probiotics, Spirulina, Flaxseed, honey are awesome, it can be added to any food without kids knowing it. 🙂  Note:  Been trying this ever since 🙂

LITTLE HEALTHY CHOICES – Something to start today

I was encouraged to make little healthy choices – using sesame/avocado/peanut oil than the usual canola oil or Lauric oil (which I often use). Quinoa, healthy spices are also packed with good stuff for our bodies.

We were given samples of stir fried healthy, yummy dishes and snacks. Healthy and yummy at the same time.

After the talk and the group photo, the husband (Yes, he attended too. Thanks luvs!) and I purchased supplements, quinoa, oats and other healthy stuff!

CHOOSING HEALTHY

I am thankful that Healthy Options is there to partner with us, parents, in creating a wholesome, healthy environment for our kids and families.

I frequent their Stores waaaay back, even before I had Lukas (I realized now that that was more than 7 years ago!) and it has been my go-to place for healthy, paraben free lotion, shampoo, organic teas and supplements too!

Then a baby and until now, Lukas’ lotion wash, shampoo, and kid’s supplements were all bought from Healthy Options as he (actually we) both have sensitive skin.

Check out my blog – My favorite Shampoo and Baby Wash way back 2015.  I wrote this for other parents whose kids have sensitive skin.

Bottom line: We have always have a choice when it comes to bringing in and preparing food for the family. Let’s Choose healthy.

BACK STORIES

What I appreciated most are “back stories” –  the stories behind the songs.   These songs, which usually last for a couple of minutes, are created out of beautiful and sometimes painful experiences, coupled with a lot of insights and reflections and lovingly crafted with care, in a way where thoughts, words and music meet. It takes God given talent for one to write beautiful pieces out of life experiences.

FAMILY MUSIC LOVE

Trisha has been songwriting since she was 11 and she has been in love with music ever since she can remember. She grew up loving music together with parents (who are singers themselves) and music-loving relatives.

With the family

She had her share of challenges growing up when she got bullied  in high school which almost pushed her to end her life. But she overcame this “dark” phase and gives credit to her family, the loving support of her mom and dad and her faith in God who’s the source of all comfort, approval and love.

Check out Spotify and add Trisha’s songs to your playlist for soulful, relaxing music. I did.

(I also know that we have to watch out for more of her and her music!)

Congratulations Trisha and the world needs to hear MORE of  your songs!

“Cars” inspired Christmas Showcase at SM City Taytay

SM City Taytay launched the Christmas Season inspired by the 3D animation movie, Cars, last Saturday, November 11. The creative centerpiece was made up of bright green colored tires with bright blue and red as decors within an indoor racetrack.

Everyone was excited to see wonderful presentations leading to the centerpiece lighting. The kids were dressed to the occasion as they sported their car racer costumes and rendered cute production numbers.

A friendly and jolly Santa was happy to talk to kids and give them their loot bags. Kids were also treated to a candy bar where they  took home candies and Christmas sweets.

Everything here is yummy!

Thank you SM for letting us celebrate Christmas as early as we can.  We can’t wait to start shopping and give gifts to our family and friends!

Early Christmas Treat at SM Center Angono

Christmas came early at  SM Center Angono as it launched its colorful Christmas display last Saturday, November 11.  Townsfolk young and old gathered together at the lobby as they were entertained by energetic production numbers leading to the centerpiece lighting.

The centerpiece for this year is a happy one featuring Santa and Snowman with bright green and deep red colors adorning two tall christmas trees. For sure, shoppers would take time to pose and get a picture of themselves with the display.

Mayor Gerry Calderon graced the event and even thrilled everyone as he danced his version of “Baby Shark” with the kids. Excitement was truly in the air as this event paves the way for future festivities in the area as Angono town fiesta celebration is only a week away.

The countdown finally began, the centerpiece was lighted, it rained colorful confetti and everyone danced for joy! It was such an awesome sight to see.

Thank you SM for the early Christmas treat! A Merry SM Christmas to all!

An Exhibit of 135 Hand-Painted Fans by Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students

In celebration of the Mid Autumn Festival, SMCity East Ortigas and  Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students  formally launched an exhibit of 135 Hand-Painted Fans on August 27, 2017 at the Main Atrium of SMCity East Ortigas.  The exhibit included chosen work from 42 different artists to showcase their rich culture and artistry.

The exhibit will run from August 27 to September 24, 2017.

The Chan Lim Family of Artists is best known for their Asian-themed art with particular focus on Chinese Brush Painting. The family has been actively engaged in the arts for more than half a century to date.  The three generations of Chan Lim family use a multitude of media, styles and techniques to incorporate Western into Eastern Art. The family actively develops and promotes Chinese brush painting in the Philippines and abroad.

Mr. Chan Lim, the Patriarch originally worked with oil and watercolor, but most of his art are on canvas.  He recently ventured into other types of media such as ceramic and porcelain plates, Asian lanterns and fans to blend Western and Eastern techniques.

Bound by their passion for the arts, the Chan Lims have traveled extensively across to conduct numerous art workshops, seminars, exhibits and on-the-spot painting demonstrations. Members of the family have joined several art exhibits locally and internationally.

Their art subjects included flora, fauna, landscape and even portraits.  These themes can be seen in most of the family’s art, as well as their students. The family is one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the country today and is sought after in this field.

The second generation of Chan Lims – Alex, Felix, Rolex and Jolex are all engineers by profession and are engaged in leadership positions with multinational companies. The third generation of Chan Lims revel in exploring different types of modern techniques,  such as digital media and apps and incorporate these into their art.

The artwork on the fans are beautiful! Each of us were given a kit – a fan, Chinese brush and a set of water colors to use.  What’s even special is that they assigned family members and students to teach us basic strokes and techniques. It was so much fun! I promised myself to practice at home so I can paint my fan beautifully.

Mr. Robin Padilla, a close friend of the family graced the event.  He acknowledged the importance of our Filipino heritage which includes Chinese Culture.  Robin beamed with pride as he informed everyone that Mr. Chan Lim, the Patriarch, is not only a master artist but is also his a martial arts master.

Happy to have a picture with Mr. Robin Padilla. He’s so humble and generous to spend time and take a selfie with his fans.

Art Classes are conducted in the family studio located in Pasig City.  Their paintings can be found in private collections across the globe.
